Introduction of Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha is one of the most respected plants in traditional Ayurvedic medicine of India. It is a small shrub with erect, brown, perennial yellow or green flowers and small, spherical, orange-red berries with yellow, stone-shaped seeds. It grows to a height of three to five feet, mainly in waste soil, but is cultivated as a whole plant; Often the root and leaves are used medicinally.

This species is found in the plains of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu in the north-western Indian states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. It is also cultivated in some parts of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. In northwestern India, its habitat extends to the Pakistani provinces of Sindh and Balochistan as well as Afghanistan. In Southeast India, it occurs in Sri Lanka. In China, it is found growing in the western provinces of Gansu and Yunnan.

The source of Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha is grows in India, the Middle East and parts of Africa. It is used in traditional medicine.

For hundreds of years, people have been using the roots and orange-red fruits of ashwagandha for medicinal purposes. This plant is also known as Indian ginseng or winter cherry.

The name “Ashwagandha” describes the smell of its root, which means “horselike”. By definition, Ashwa means horse.

HOW TO USE ASHWAGANDHA

1.Ashwagandha Tablets

  • Take 1 Ashwagandha tablet or as prescqribed by the with warm milk or water after taking food twic a day.

2.Ashwagandha Powder (Churna)

a. With milk or honey
Take 1/4-1/2 teaspoon Ashwagandha powder (churna) with milk or honey or as prescribed by the doctor.

3.Ashwagandha Tea

i. Add 1 teaspoon of Ashwagandha powder to 2 cups of water.
ii. Bring it to a boil.
iii. Boil until it reduces to 1/2 of the original quantity.
iv. Add some milk and honey to it.
v. Drink once a day.
vi. You can skip honey in case of high blood sugar level

4.Ashwagandha milkshake

I fried 4 tbsp ashwagandha powder (surna) in 1 cup pure ghee.
Second add 1-2 teaspoons of honey.
iii. To take, mix 1 teaspoon of this powder in 1 glass of cold milk.
iv. Mix well and drink immediately for best taste.
v. You can store this mixture in the refrigerator and use it as needed [29].
vi Avoid honey if you have high blood sugar.

5.Ashwagandha laddoos

I take 2 tbsp ashwagandha powder (surna).
Secondly add 1 tbsp jaggery powder.
iii. Add a pinch of black salt and black pepper to the mixture to enhance the taste.
iv. Knead the mixture well and well.
v. Make circular laddus [30] in a circular motion between your palms using the above mixture.
vi You can store these in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.

6.Ashwagandha Srikanto

I get 250 grams of thick curd.
Place the second curd on a muslin cloth so that all the water drains out.
iii. Remove the curd from the muslin cloth and keep it in the fridge.
iv. Divide the hung yogurt into 4 parts.
v. Add sugar/honey and 1 tbsp ashwagandha powder per area as per your taste.
vi You can also add some dry fruits and cardamom powder to enhance its taste.
vii. Knead each part gently.
viii. Refrigerate for a few hours in the refrigerator.
ix. You can replace it with sugar or honey jam

PRECAUTIONS WHEN USING ASHWAGANDHA

Experts Advice

Ashwagandha may cause gastrointestinal disturbances. So it is generally advisable to use Ashwagandha with caution in people with Pitta and Ama imbalance.

Breastfeeding

Ayurvedic doctor supervision is needed while taking Ashwagandha during breastfeeding, self medication should be avoided.

Minor Medicine Interaction

Ashwagandha increases the production of thyroid hormone (T4). It is therefore advised to regularly monitor your thyroid levels while taking Ashwagandha along with hyperthyroidism medications.
